Even the idea of driving for the first time can send chills down your spine! This is one such experience were worries are real and tangible. And the worst part about this overpowering situation is we tend to forget how complex the entire driving process is. Well, the key to overcome this situation is to break the process into simple steps and work on them individually.
To help you make your first driving experience a success, we have summed up five stages of driver’s education that you must be aware of. But, make sure that you have mastered the skills of one level before moving to another. As each stage has its own set of experience for a newbie, it is suggested not to move quickly from one stage to another. Know Your Vehicle Before learning about a new object, you must firstly get an understanding about its in and out. This stage includes everything that a driver must know about the vehicle and what is its basic working. Once you are done with this stage, you should ask yourself these questions. Do you know how to start and stop an engine? Are you aware of turning the headlights and parking lights on or off? Do you know how to adjust windshield wipers? How do you check the oil or fuel in your vehicle? How to check the tyres and how to change a flat tyre? What do the lights on the dashboard mean? What should be your preventive measure during an accident? If you are able to answer all of these then you can easily move on to the next step. After all, getting a scratch on your new vehicle or vehicle wrap would the last thing you’ll ever want. Basic Proficiency The next stage of driver’s learning is about getting familiar with the basics of driving. In this stage, you will learn how to control the vehicle and make it follow your lead. At the end of this level, you will be able to make safe turns (including giving signals), shift gears smoothly, stop the vehicle and reverse the car. It will also help you to get familiar with your surroundings while driving. Safety In this stage, you will learn about how to drive safely on the road with other drivers, pedestrians and parked cars. In order for you to master this skill, you need to be in synchronisation with others as well. So, begin on an inhabited street and then cover multi-lane streets. At the end of this stage, you’ll be able to navigate safely through signals, 4-way and 2-way stops and uninhibited intersections. You’ll also be able to make a smooth lane change, maintain safe distance around your vehicle when in traffic, drive effortlessly, obey traffic rules and operate your vehicle within the speed limit. Do not forget to use mirror for checking blind spots. Turns And Parking Driving and parking are two different tasks. Most accidents happened during getting in or out of the parking spot. To learn this skill, you must use a residential area or a parking lot. In this stage you will learn to park safely- uphill and downhill facing, parallel parking, 90-degree parking, diagonal parking, etc. This step will also sharpen your U-turn capabilities and 3-point turns. Progress On Skills Last but not the least; this is an advanced version of skills. This step will depend upon the proficiency on the skills learned in the above stages. Don’t jump onto the 5th stage if you are not confident about other stages. You need to keep the above skills under control. At last, you will not only be able to drive safely on the freeway, at night and in ice, but also change lanes and maintain safe distance with other vehicles. Learning how to drive can be a havoc process, but with proper guidance and preparation, it will be easy for you to overcome any situation!
